About Silk Embroidery Art > Crafting

By firming a piece of silk tightly over a wooden
stretcher, a design is sketched on the silk by drawing
simple outlines, then the artist uses fine needles and
colorful silk threads to stitch the image to life. Layer
upon layer of thread is built up to create dimensions,
shadows and highlights, adding to the complexity.

A strict and elaborated process has been developed to
make a fine work, which includes scaling, tracing, color
matching, missing threads stitching, cross-stitching,
overlapping stitching and many other unique methods.

Splitting the silk thread is one of the traditional
techniques. Sometimes, the single silk thread needs be
divided into 16 to 48 thinner strands to express a sense
of lightness, transparency, and the detailed
transformation of colors.
